How do you type an umlaute on a regular keyboard? Is this possible? Or do I have to some kind of irritating template wingding thing?

before i deleted this blog someone had actually told me how to type this but then i didn't write it down and still don't know. So yeah I really hope this guy comes back someday and retells me how to type it.
